Art of the Edition

Edition printing is a collaborative effort between an artist and a printer which yields a limited number of multiples of the artist's work. Historically, work was printed in edition to spread copies of a unique masterpiece to the largest possible audience. Today's technology has expediently satisfied that purpose, freeing artists to use print media to challenge and expand their creative practice. In this weekend intensive course, students will conceive and produce an edition of up to 15 screen prints with the guidance of printer Zebadiah Keneally. The ultimate aim of this process is not only to print a great work, but also to help the artist approach the execution of their ideas from new angles that encourage creative growth and development. In addition to the Gowanus Print Lab, Zebadiah has worked at the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies at Columbia University, the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking and Boxcar Press. Keneally was a visiting artist at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts in HCMC, Vietnam. He has worked on editions for artists such as Rirkrit Tiravanija, Wolf Kahn and Chris Johansen. Two 6-Hour Sessions Genre: Instructional Workshop Experience Level: Intermediate (Intro to Screen Printing or equivalent experience required) Price: $300, all screen printing supplies included, though it is recommended you bring your own screens and squeegees. You provide the paper (18x24" newsprint pad and your "good" paper for final prints), 24x36" clear mylar, and make sure to bring a portfolio to carry your finished prints home in!
